“Beat the Blues”

Mary and I have been working on a very special project this last month!

Hand-painted hydrangea on blue apron

Blue polymer clay covered pens &

Matching keychain

These “blue” creations are for a donation basket we are putting together for my friend’s daughter, Megan.

Megan was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and has started her chemotherapy treatments. There is a benefit for Megan and her family on March 2 from noon to four in Fort Dodge at the Rides Bar and Grill. Megan is a wife and a mother of four children. Megan works at the Fort Dodge Middle School as well as the Community Early Childhood Center. The benefit includes a meal, silent auction items, other items for sale, and of course supporting this amazing woman for all she does for her family, friends, and community.

Megan’s mom is Janet. Janet and I became acquainted through our husbands who work together. Janet and I immediately hit it off over our love of crafting and coffee.

I asked Janet to tell me Megan’s favorite color, and when she told me “blue", the idea of putting together a donation basket filled with items to help “beat the blues” came to fruition.

Not just the pens, keychain, and apron designed by our Purple Butterfly Shop, but a plethora of fun, “blue-inspired” things to help with relaxation and de-stressing.

I admit I went a little crazy at Bath and Body Works including blue-packaged components such as body wash, a mesh sponge, moisturizing cream, antibacterial hand gels, a visor clip car freshener, room spray, and hand soap.

Of course I didn’t stop there! I added in a journal, candle, comfy slipper socks, a mug and some True Blueberry tea. Mary’s hand-painted blue apron can be worn while mixing up the Wild Blueberry muffin mix.

No “Beat the Blues” basket would be complete without an essential oil. I chose Blue Lotus. According to the Doterra website, “Blue Lotus, also known as the water lily, is a majestic blue flower with a vibrant yellow center. It represents long life, health, honor, and good luck. It was considered by ancient Egyptians to be a sacred and even magical flower. The blossoms were sprinkled over King Tut’s body before he was entombed. Blue Lotus Touch can be used in a massage, as a meditation aid, and for overall skin hydration. It also makes for an enchanting personal fragrance.”

All these “blue” objects are wrapped up in an extra-long reversible blue beach towel and tucked in a blue denim-look “table decor container.”

I can’t stop myself!

Since writing this journal entry, I’ve already added a few more things!

If you’re in the area, stop by and bid on this basket! It’s valued at $250; but hurry, because I may just purchase it myself!
