I Scream for Ice Cream!

I recently designed some red and white polymer clay covered pens for an ice cream shop in Mason City, Iowa to honor my love of this timeless dessert. Me and the frozen treat go way back!

Birdsall's Ice Cream

Birdsall’s Ice Cream Shop, Mason City, Iowa.

The red and white color scheme is iconic.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve either been eating ice cream or serving ice cream.

My first job was at a Baskin-Robbins in Marshalltown, Iowa hand-dipping (and sampling) all 31-derful flavors. I went from staff member to staff leader (and two uniform style changes) over the course of my 6 years of scooping.

“Sugar cone or plain cone?”

In 2021 I had the privilege of assisting some new owners in serving customers at Birdsall’s in Mason City. The store was closed down a little over a year after a long-time owner passed away in addition to the pandemic. So the crowds were overwhelming during the first few days when it was up and running again.

Hand-packed quart to go with a smile!

As a kid growing up, my grandma and grandpa would make homemade ice cream in a crank freezer which we would immediately partake in when it was done.

Nobody worried about germs while we all fought for multiple ice cold bites from the dasher while grandma held it upright on a plate in the middle of the table.

There’s nothing like the taste of rich creamy ice cream spooned right off the dasher in the company of family.

Homemade or store bought, ice cream is the perfect dessert! What’s your favorite flavor?
